Success Story

A Smallholder Farmer from Tuya
Hikima Ibrahim is my name, a smallholder farmer from Tuya, in the Mion district of the Northern Region of Ghana. Before being part of this project, I struggled to decide which crops to plant each season. I couldn’t access accurate information about soil health, pest management, or the best harvest time. I mainly relied on traditional methods that often led to disappointing yields.
When I heard about Barak Farms Limited (BFL) the database and the training, I was skeptical at first. However, the training sensitization sessions changed everything for me. I will learn about sustainable practices, agroforestry techniques, and better crop management methods. The practical field exercises will allow me to see these methods in action, and I will be more confident implementing them on my farm.
But what truly revolutionized my farming was the database. It wasn’t just about data; it was about knowledge. I could access tailored advice that suited my situation with the information gathered. The database helped me choose the suitable crops and the best planting times and even gave me insights into managing pests organically.
In just one season, I am optimistic my yields will improve significantly with corresponding increases in harvesting more crops than I had in previous years. Also, I could store and sell my produce at better prices with better post-harvest handling techniques. My income will eventually increase, and I could invest in better equipment and resources for my farm.
Being part of this project will change not just my farming practices but my entire outlook. I am hoping to be a more informed and empowered farmer.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this database project. It has transformed my life and my farm, and I’m excited to see how it can continue to benefit more smallholder farmers like me.
